I knew I wanted to be a pastor before I finished junior high. Thirty years of Sundays later, I still believe preaching is worth getting better at — and that almost nobody helps preachers do it.

Why I coach preachers

Somewhere along the way I noticed a pattern: pastors get coaching for leadership, for fundraising, for church systems — and nothing for the thing they do in front of everyone, every single week. The average preacher hasn’t had honest, skilled feedback since seminary. So the craft plateaus, the prep gets heavier, and Saturday night stays tense.

Coaching preachers is my answer to that. Over the last five-plus years I’ve coached first-time communicators and 20-year lead pastors — over 100 preachers trained — and I teach preaching to undergraduates at William Jessup University. The pattern holds at every level: honest feedback plus a few teachable tools, and both the sermon and the preacher get lighter.

A sustainable prep process produces good sermons every week. Adrenaline produces one good sermon and one exhausted preacher.
